Local SEO

Helping businesses get found by people searching in their town, city or local area.

What is Local SEO?

Local SEO is about targeting the searches people make in your area. That could be someone searching for a service in their town, city or county, or someone using a search like near me when they need a business close to them.

These searches are often higher to convert because the person is usually much closer to making a decision. If someone is looking for a local service, they normally have a real need and they want to find someone they can trust nearby.

A big part of local SEO is making sure your Google Business Profile is properly set up. That means accurate opening hours, the right phone number, the right address or service area, clear services, good photos and regular updates. Reviews matter too, because people use them to decide whether they trust you before they ever get in touch.

It is not just about the Google profile though. Your website still needs to support the local terms you want to rank for. That means clear service pages, useful local content, strong on page SEO and making it easy for people to contact you once they land on the site.

Local SEO vs National SEO

The main difference is simple. Local SEO targets your local area, while national SEO targets the whole country. For some businesses, national SEO is never really needed because they cannot serve customers across the UK. A local tradesperson, clinic or service business may get a much better return by focusing on the area they actually work in.

For other businesses, national SEO can make sense. Larger companies, hotel groups, online stores and businesses that can serve the whole country may need a wider strategy. Even then, I would still look at the data and decide what should be prioritised first.

Local SEO is usually easier to compete in and often delivers a stronger return because the terms are not as hard to rank for. You are normally up against businesses in your area, not huge companies with full time SEO teams and years of authority behind them.

Local Searches Can Turn Into Customers Quickly

LocaliQ reports that 80% of local mobile searches convert. I would not treat any stat like a guarantee, but it does show why local SEO is so important. People searching locally are often not browsing for fun. They are looking for someone nearby who can solve the problem they have right now.

How Long Does it Take to See Results from Local SEO?

It depends on how much your competition has already invested in SEO for the terms you want to target. If competitors have strong pages, good reviews, a well built site and a strong local presence, it will usually take longer to catch up.

In most cases, I would hope to see movement within the first three months. That might not mean jumping straight to the top of page one. It could be going from page seven to page four, or seeing better rankings for a set of local terms. That is still progress.

SEO does not happen overnight, but if the right work is being done and the recommendations are being implemented, you would usually expect to start seeing the rewards within around six months. The key is doing the basics properly, tracking what is happening and improving the parts of the site that are holding you back.

What My Local SEO Services Include

Local SEO should be built around the areas you actually want enquiries from. The work below is the kind of support I would look at once I understand your service area, competitors and the searches that can bring in real leads.

01

Local Keyword Research

I find the searches people use in your town, city or service area, then prioritise the terms most likely to bring in useful enquiries.

02

Google Business Profile Support

I review your profile, services, categories, photos, opening hours and key details so people can quickly understand what you do and how to contact you.

03

Local Service Pages

I help shape service and location pages so they target the right local searches without turning into thin or spammy pages.

04

On Page SEO

I review headings, metadata, internal links, page copy and calls to action so the important local pages are clearer and easier to understand.

05

Reviews and Trust Signals

I look at how reviews, testimonials, local proof and contact details are being used to help people trust you before they enquire.

06

Local Reporting and Next Steps

I track the local terms that matter and turn the findings into clear next steps, so the work stays focused on enquiries rather than vanity traffic.

Benefits of Local SEO

Local SEO is often one of the best places to start because it focuses on the people most likely to become real enquiries.

Reach People Nearby

Local SEO helps you show up for people searching in your town, city or service area. These are often the searches that matter most because they are close to home.

Improve Your Google Profile

Your Google Business Profile can be one of the first things people see. Better information, photos, services and reviews can help people choose you faster.

Bring In Better Leads

Someone searching locally is often closer to making a decision. That means local SEO can bring enquiries from people who already know they need help.

Get Quicker Wins

Local search terms are often easier to compete for than national ones. That can make them a smarter first step if you want better return from SEO.

Build Local Trust

Reviews, local pages and a clear online presence can help people feel more confident before they call, email or fill in a form.

Focus on Better Return

Local SEO lets you focus on the areas and terms that are most likely to bring work in. It is not about chasing traffic for the sake of it.

Local SEO FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions I get about local SEO.

Is local SEO right for my business?

If your customers come from a town, city, county or local service area, then local SEO is usually worth looking at. It is especially useful for service businesses, trades, clinics, professional services and businesses with a physical location.

If you can only serve certain areas, it normally makes more sense to focus there first rather than chasing national searches that may never turn into work.

What does local SEO include?

Local SEO can include improving your Google Business Profile, building stronger local service pages, improving reviews, fixing on page SEO, checking technical issues and making sure your business information is consistent.

The exact work depends on what is holding the site back and how strong your local competitors already are.

How long does local SEO take?

It depends on the competition and the current state of your website. In many cases you should start seeing movement within around three months, but stronger results usually take longer.

SEO is not instant. The aim is to keep improving the right pages, track what is moving and build momentum over time.

Do reviews help local SEO?

Yes, reviews can help. They are not the only thing that matters, but they can support trust and help people choose you when they are comparing local businesses.

Good reviews also make your Google Business Profile look stronger, especially when people are close to making a decision.

Do I need a Google Business Profile?

For most local businesses, yes. A properly set up Google Business Profile can help you appear in map results and gives people useful information before they visit your website.

It should have the right phone number, opening hours, service areas, photos, services and a clear link back to your site.

Should I choose local SEO or national SEO?

If you mainly work in one area, local SEO is usually the better starting point. It is often easier to compete in and can bring in people who are closer to buying.

National SEO makes more sense if your business can serve customers across the UK and the data shows there is a realistic opportunity to compete for wider search terms.
